In brief
ISO Strategy 2030 outlines the organization's vision and mission to make lives easier, safer, and better by 2030. It sets three goals—standards used everywhere, meeting global needs, and all voices heard—and focuses on priorities shaped by the economy, technology, society, and environment to guide a long-term, agile approach to global challenges.
The ISO Strategy 2030 sets a clear and agile framework to guide the organization's purpose, actions, and impact over the next ten years. Developed collaboratively with input from members, partners, and stakeholders across 165 countries, the strategy aligns closely with the United Nations' Global Agenda for 2030 and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
ISO’s vision for 2030 is to make lives easier, safer, and better by leveraging international standards to address global challenges and drive positive change. The mission focuses on bringing people together through its members and stakeholders to develop consensus-based international standards that support global trade, inclusive economic growth, innovation, health, safety, and sustainability.
The strategy defines three primary goals that serve as stepping stones to realizing this vision:
ISO standards used everywhere: Ensuring standards are high quality, accessible, user-friendly, and widely adopted worldwide to maximize their benefits.
Meeting global needs: Developing relevant, consensus-based standards that respond effectively and timely to current and future global challenges.
All voices heard: Promoting diversity, inclusivity, and broad participation to attract the best experts and stakeholders, ensuring all perspectives influence standards development and organizational decisions.
To achieve these goals, ISO has identified six to seven strategic priorities focused on where resources and efforts need to concentrate. The strategy recognizes four primary external drivers of change that will shape ISO's impact: the economy, technology, society, and the environment. By regularly reviewing and adjusting priorities based on these drivers, ISO ensures its continued relevance and agility in a rapidly evolving world.
The strategy includes a structured measurement framework to monitor progress toward strategic priorities and overall success in achieving the goals set for 2030.
This long-term approach differs from prior five-year plans by offering consistent focus on complex, large-scale global issues such as climate change, digital transformation, resilience, and equality.
Ultimately, ISO Strategy 2030 embodies the organization’s commitment to collaboration, consensus, and progress as it strives to play a key role in transforming the world into a sustainable and equitable place through international standardization.
